Walk of Shame by Lauren Layne

Release Date: April 18, 2017

My rating: 3.75 stars

Summary: Sparks fly between a misunderstood New York socialite and a cynical divorce lawyer in this lively standalone rom-com from the USA Today bestselling author of Blurred Lines and Love Story.

Pampered heiress Georgianna Watkins has a party-girl image to maintain, but all the shopping and clubbing is starting to feel a little bit hollow—and a whole lot lonely. Though Georgie would never admit it, the highlights of her week are the mornings when she comes home at the same time as her uptight, workaholic neighbor is leaving to hit the gym and put in a long day at the office. Teasing him is the most fun Georgie’s had in years—and the fuel for all her naughtiest daydreams.

Celebrity divorce attorney Andrew Mulroney doesn’t have much time for women, especially spoiled tabloid princesses who spend more time on Page Six than at an actual job. Although Georgie’s drop-dead gorgeous, she’s also everything Andrew resents: the type of girl who inherited her penthouse instead of earning it. But after Andrew caps one of their predawn sparring sessions with a surprise kiss—a kiss that’s caught on camera—all of Manhattan is gossiping about whether they’re a real couple. And nobody’s more surprised than Andrew to find that the answer just might be yes.

Walk of Shame was exactly what I needed: a cute book that was a nice break from all the heavy, emotional books I've been reading. This one reminded more of Lauren Layne's Stiletto and Oxford series, which I love, than her other books (though admittedly I've never finished the other books in the Love Unexpectedly series).

In this book, Georgie Watkins is a self-proclaimed party girl who comes home every night at 5 in the morning--the same time her neighbor, Andrew Mulroney, leaves the building to start his day. They have an antagonistic relationship; Andrew is cold towards Georgie, but she teases him in a fun manner. Eventually they see past their differences and get together.

The summary is a bit misleading because that particular plot point is very short lived. Actually, most of the plotlines in this book was short; everything felt a little rushed, especially the ending. The last 15% brought a conflict and resolved it in a way that none of it felt like it was a real obstacle. The rushed ending made me a little upset; I know it's a short book, but it could've been paced a lot better.

Overall, though, I enjoyed this book. Lauren Layne writes some of my favorite NA books, though my fave is still her Stiletto series. Read Walk of Shame if you like hate-to-love or polar opposites tropes!
