LIST: if you like the shadow and bone trilogy

With a return to the Grishaverse through the release of King of Scars this year, I thought it was appropriate to make a post with a list of book recommendations for if you like the Shadow and Bone trilogy! This is a rather lengthy list, but I couldn't stop myself from recommending some amazing books.

And much like my post for if you like The Cruel Prince, I made a quiz for you to take if you can't decide which to read next! Unfortunately, with so many choices, your result may make you miss out on some other great books, so don't forget to check out the entire list! (Some of these do fit into more than one category btw.)

The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi

Release Date: January 15, 2019

My Rating: 5 stars

Summary: Set in a darkly glamorous world, The Gilded Wolves is full of mystery, decadence, and dangerous but thrilling adventure.

Paris, 1889: The world is on the cusp of industry and power, and the Exposition Universelle has breathed new life into the streets and dredged up ancient secrets. In this city, no one keeps tabs on secrets better than treasure-hunter and wealthy hotelier, Séverin Montagnet-Alarie. But when the all-powerful society, the Order of Babel, seeks him out for help, Séverin is offered a treasure that he never imagined: his true inheritance.

To find the ancient artifact the Order seeks, Séverin will need help from a band of experts: An engineer with a debt to pay. A historian who can't yet go home. A dancer with a sinister past. And a brother in all but blood, who might care too much.

Together, they'll have to use their wits and knowledge to hunt the artifact through the dark and glittering heart of Paris. What they find might change the world, but only if they can stay alive.

#waitingonwednesday: we hunt the flame

This week's #waitingonwednesday book is We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal! I'm so so excited for this book because I've heard so many great things. Also, I'm lucky enough to be on the street team for it, and it's been such a lovely experience so far! You can pick this book up on May 14, 2019.

More reasons to add it to your tbr list:
  • fantasy inspired by Arabia
  • lyrical writing
  • enemies to lovers!!
  • intriguing plot
  • look!! at that cover!!

Here's the summary:

People lived because she killed.
People died because he lived.

Zafira is the Hunter, disguising herself as a man when she braves the cursed forest of the Arz to feed her people. Nasir is the Prince of Death, assassinating those foolish enough to defy his autocratic father, the king. If Zafira was exposed as a girl, all of her achievements would be rejected; if Nasir displayed his compassion, his father would punish him in the most brutal of ways.

Both are legends in the kingdom of Arawiya—but neither wants to be.

War is brewing, and the Arz sweeps closer with each passing day, engulfing the land in shadow. When Zafira embarks on a quest to uncover a lost artifact that can restore magic to her suffering world and stop the Arz, Nasir is sent by the king on a similar mission: retrieve the artifact and kill the Hunter. But an ancient evil stirs as their journey unfolds—and the prize they seek may pose a threat greater than either can imagine.

Set in a richly detailed world inspired by ancient Arabia, We Hunt the Flame is a gripping debut of discovery, conquering fear, and taking identity into your own hands.

DISCUSSION: books and songs I associate together

I've been thinking about making this post for so long, and I finally have time to write it! So I don't know about you, but there are some songs that I so strongly associate with certain books. Sometimes, it's because it's a song that was obsessed with at the time and just happened to be reading the book, or I would just strongly relate the lyrics of the song to a book.

Honestly, this will be such a random list of books and songs because some of these were from . . . 2012 - 2013? Middle school me was honestly pretty weird. My brain still does associate random things together idk.
