Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins
Release Date: May 7, 2019
My Rating: 4.75 stars
Summary: Millie Quint is devastated when she discovers that her sort-of-best friend/sort-of-girlfriend has been kissing someone else. And because Millie cannot stand the thought of confronting her ex every day, she decides to apply for scholarships to boarding schools . . . the farther from Houston the better.
Millie can't believe her luck when she's accepted into one of the world's most exclusive schools, located in the rolling highlands of Scotland. Everything about Scotland is different: the country is misty and green; the school is gorgeous, and the students think Americans are cute.
The only problem: Mille's roommate Flora is a total princess.
She's also an actual princess. Of Scotland.
At first, the girls can barely stand each other--Flora is both high-class and high-key--but before Millie knows it, she has another sort-of-best-friend/sort-of-girlfriend. Even though Princess Flora could be a new chapter in her love life, Millie knows the chances of happily ever afters are slim . . . after all, real life isn't a fairy tale . . . or is it?

I could just go somewhere else.I have been hyped for Her Royal Highness for so long, especially since I adored the first book. If you follow me on twitter, you've probably noticed me yelling and screaming about this book for so long, and I've finally read it now! Of course, I adored it; Her Royal Highness is so soft, so good, so gay.
Start over.
Me.
Scotland.
Millie is obsessed with rocks (she licks one, on page, okay) and wants to escape from her failed relationship with her best friend, so naturally Scotland seemed like the right choice. She's paired with Flora as a roommate, who turns out to be a literal princess. Oh, and did I mention that Millie's bi and Flora's lesbian? AND THEY WERE ROOMMATES!!!
"The stag is the national animal of Scotland. And since I'm a princess . . . "
"What? You think this thing respects rank?"
From their first interaction, Millie and Flora have sparks. I mean, technically they're bad sparks because they hate each other so much despite being roommates. Millie just wants to live her life peacefully, enjoying Scotland, but nooo Flora has to ruin everything for her and drag her along as she tries to get expelled.
It's humorous, really, that they get to bond even though Flora keeps getting both of them in trouble. I sat there, unable to take my eyes off the page while they fell in love because it was just so damn heartwarming and soft. I mean, the dancing scene had me holding my breath because the tension was so much! This book really captured my attention the whole time, especially with the return of some characters from book one.

"Okay, talk like that is for sexy dances, not the waltz," I say, and one corner of her mouth lifts in that slinky, feline smile she does.
"Are you saying this isn't sexy?"
I honestly need Seb's book ASAP. He's back and still very much a human trash pile, but I love him, okay? The Royal Wreckers wrecked me honestly. They have absolutely no concern of any consequences and it's so entertaining to watch. I did wish that we could have gotten more of Daisy and Miles (and Miles and Seb :/ ) but honestly, this felt more natural and less forced so it was okay.
That ending though!! Why did it have to end right there?? At least in Prince Charming, we were already in the resolution. Here it felt like the very beginning of the resolution. My heart stopped, to be honest, because I thought we were still winding down.

"Oh my god, Your Royal Highness," I tease. "You are a royal disaster."Her Royal Highness was truly the book of my dreams. A bi STEM protagonist, in a hate-to-love relationship with her lesbian roommate, who's an actual princess? A love story for the ages set against the moors of Scotland? What more could you want?
